We have teamed up with Iga Kosicka from Iga Illustrations to give you a guide to Poznan in Poland, where she was born and raised. Stay tuned here for Iga’s best tips for the city< 3

Why visit Poznan, Poland?
Poznan is the size of the city of Aarhus, so it is a good city to visit for a weekend. The city is a great example of the perfect combination of ancient architecture and post-communist details. Culturally, I would say that Poznan is the liveliest city in Poland. It is one of the oldest and friendliest cities in Poland, and it’s not as busy as Warsaw. Poznan has it all: charming house facades, early medieval architecture, the narrow streets of the Renaissance in the old town and beautiful parks. At the same time, the city is well connected to other parts of Poland – there is, for example, 2.5 hours to Warsaw. It also takes less than 3 hours to get there from Berlin.

Where to stay?
Poznan is a compact city, so everything is close by. I would recommend staying in the city center, but not in the old town, where there is a lot of noise at night.

Where to go to a café?
I recommend the following places, which serve lunch as well as good coffee and cake:

Kwiaciarnia Bistro

Trzecia Kawa

Taczaka 20

Zen On

Stragan Kawiarnia

What else to do in the city?
I think you should visit “Okraglak” – a former department store, which is a symbol of modernist architecture in Poznan. In addition, I recommend the Muzeum Narodowe w Poznaniu .At the moment they show an exhibition by Wilhelm Hamershøj and they also have many exhibtions by Polish artists. Another recommendable museum is Porta Poznania , where you can learn in a modern way about the beginnings of the Polish state and the cathedral island.

How to get around the city?

You can easily commute by tram, just remember to buy a weekend ticket or a 24-hour ticket.

Do you have other local tips?
A good option is to go to the hairdresser. I can really recommend Nów – really talented hairdressers who have turned an old warehouse into a fantastic studio.
