Floral bedspreads
These floral print bedspreads are created after a hundred years of tradition in India. The rugs are block printed with large wooden blocks in which the desired print is carefully cut out. This printing method has been around for thousands of years and is passed down from generation to generation. All are talented and well-trained craftsmen who stamp the textile with the carved wooden blocks. Each print is carefully carved out of a block of wood. A process that requires extreme skill to fit all the details.
Depending on how many colours and how difficult a design is to print, these bedspreads need to be stamped many hundreds of times to complete. Several different stamps are made for each carpet, to print with the different colours and shapes.
The material itself is woven on large handlooms, which are handled exclusively by hand. It requires enormous strength and coordination to handle this kind of loom. Each bed cover is made of 100% cotton.
Once printed on one side of the fabric, it is attached to another piece of fabric that is dyed through in a colour that matches the print. This is done by hand with a traditional quilting method called Kantha Stitch which is sewn by hand with needle and thread. This takes many hours and finesse to complete.
Each rug is handmade and unique. The creation process for this rug is long and complicated, so it’s important to embrace the irregularities and differences each product may have. This is part of the charm of buying crafts that have been through many different hands in the creation process. Common to all is, that they have gone to extreme lengths to master this particular craft.
These bedspreads are made in Jaipur, India.
